About West Rockingham County ARES

The New Hampshire Amateur Radio Emergency Service (NHARES) provides emergency communication for state and local government and community service agencies. Currently, NHARES is divided into 12 groups. Each group has an Emergency Coordinator who works with served agencies (such as police, fire, sheriff, search & rescue, and Homeland Security and Emergency Management) to determine how to best meet the need for emergency communications.

The purpose of West Rockingham ARES group is to provide the emergency communications for 17 communities in Rockingham County and support the statewide ARES program.

Agencies served are New Hampshire Department of Safety - Homeland Security and Emergency Management, National Weather Service (NWS), both Taunton, Massachusetts and Gray, Maine and the Manchester Red Cross. The West Rockingham Emergency Coordinator works to understand the needs of these communities and agencies and to organize resources to maintain an adequate level of emergency preparedness.

Entities in the eastern portion of Rockingham County New Hampshire in our area include: Atkinson, Candia, Chester, Danville, Deerfield, Derry, Epping, Fremont, Hampstead, Londonderry, Northwood, Nottingham, Plaistow, Raymond, Salem, Sandown, Windham. Officals from these mulicipalities and other qualifiying served agencies that are interested in HAM radio as backup emergency communications should contact the Western Rockingham County Emergency Coordinator.

Western Rockham County has a NET on Sunday Evenings at 8pm Local. Typically on 146.85 with a PL of 85.4 Feel free to program this frequency into your scanner and listen in.

Ham Operators can also be found training at different community events in the area as well as participating in the annual SET (Simulated Emergency Test) held during the first Saturday in November, Summer and Winter Field day.
